Grantmaking
Rooted in Reciprocity
Guided by Ancestors. Built for Generations.
Indigenous Just Transition moves resources the way they were always meant to move — back to the communities already doing the work of healing land, water, and each other.
Why We Give
"Give a gift, in reciprocity for what you have taken. Sustain the ones who sustain you and the earth will last forever."
— Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
IJT exists to help Indigenous communities move beyond extractive economies and build sustainable futures.
Grantmaking is one of the clearest ways we live that mission — because funding, done right, is not charity. It's reciprocity: returning resources to the people who have stewarded their lands and waters the longest, without asking them to first prove themselves to a system that was never built for them.
Our vision is a world where Indigenous peoples lead the way toward just, regenerative systems — where lands, people, and waters are healed, children are thriving, and sovereignty is fully alive. Every grant we give is a step toward that world.

Our Values, In Practice
Indigenous Stewardship
We fund people who are already knowledge-holders, not projects we're discovering or shaping from the outside.
Decolonization
We remove the bureaucratic gatekeeping — the templates, the credentialing, the extractive strings — that has historically kept resources out of Indigenous hands.
Regenerative Economies
Our funding is designed to plant the seeds of futures that honor reciprocity, not extraction — cycles that regenerate rather than deplete.
Environmental Justice
We fund the restoration of land and water, because our liberation is tied to the health of our relatives — the rivers, the forests, the animals, the air.
Community Care & Healing
Reporting is a story, not an audit. Relationship comes before paperwork.

We're building something sacred, and it takes many hands to carry it forward. Whether you're doing the work on the ground or resourcing the people who are — there's a place for you here.
